All concerned officers should be alert. Keep a close watch on the developments and continuously evaluate the security of Indian nationals in Sudan and try to provide all possible assistance to them.
Prime Minister Modi
Here, there has been news of a 72-hour ceasefire in Sudan on Eid. It is understood that during this time the Government of India may go ahead with its emergency plan. The PM has asked all officials to closely monitor the developments and continuously evaluate the security of Indians. He has said that all possible help should be provided to the Indians in the violence affected area. Earlier in the meeting, the Prime Minister was apprised of the latest situation in Sudan and the ground situation was reviewed. Modi condoled the death of an Indian citizen who sustained bullet injuries last week.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining close ties with Sudan as well as with neighboring countries in the region where there is a sizeable Indian presence. Jaishankar has already discussed the situation in Sudan with the Foreign Ministers of Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt. There have been assurances of practical cooperation for the security of Indians from many countries of the world. The Government of India wants to proceed with the safe evacuation of Indians after the ceasefire. The focus was also on this in the conversation between Jaishankar and the UN chief. On behalf of the government, Indians have been told to stay where they are and do not go out. Government of India is in constant touch with countries like US, UK, Saudi, UAE, Egypt on Sudan crisis.
It is clear from the presence of the Air Force Chief and Navy Chief in the PM’s meeting that the Government of India is considering evacuating Indians from Sudan by air or sea route. The way a campaign was launched to evacuate Indian students stranded in Ukraine, something similar can be seen in Sudan. Indians can be evacuated by sending planes to neighboring countries. This is also a major reason for the discussion of foreign ministers with Saudi Arabia and Egypt near Sudan. It is possible that Indian Navy ships will evacuate their people through the Gulf of Aden.
