New Delhi . Giving information recently, the central government said that India’s defense exports increased to Rs 23,622 crore (about 2.76 billion) in FY 2025. In the financial year 2024, defense exports have increased by Rs 2,539 crore i.e. 12.04 percent as compared to Rs 21,083 crore. The Defense Public Sector Undertencings (DPSU) recorded a great increase of 42.85 percent in its exports in FY 2025, which reflects the Indian defense industry’s ability to grow Indian products in the global market and to become part of the global supply chain.
In the financial year 2025, the private sector and DPSU have contributed Rs 15,233 crore and Rs 8,389 crore respectively in defense exports, compared to Rs 15,209 crore and Rs 5,874 crore respectively for FY 2024.
In a post on social media platform X, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is moving towards achieving the target of increasing defense exports to Rs 50,000 crore by 2029.
India has now become more focused on self -reliance and indigenous production by developing with military force dependent on major imports.
To promote defense exports, many types of goods ranging from ammunition, weapons, all systems/systems, parts and components have been exported to about 80 countries in the recently ended financial year.
According to the Ministry, the Department of Defense Production has a dedicated portal for the application and processing of export of export of exports related to export.
FY 2024-25 issued 1,762 export authentication, while last year 1,507 autorizations related to export were issued, which records a 16.92 percent increase.
During the same period, the total number of exporters also increased by 17.4 percent. The government aims to achieve Rs 3 lakh crore in defense production by 2029, which will strengthen the situation as the country’s global defense manufacturing hub.
About 65 percent of the defense equipment is now manufactured domestically, which is a major change from the earlier 65–70 percent import dependence.
According to the Ministry of Defense, a strong defense industrial base includes 16 DPSUs, over 430 licensed companies and around 16,000 MSMEs, which strengthen indigenous production capabilities.
