Heaven is not somewhere else but on this earth. No, not on this earth but in our own country. Looking at states like Bihar, Jharkhand, UP, Bengal, Odisha, we have assumed that the condition of the whole country is like this. Poverty, unemployment, corruption is prevalent everywhere. But, you understand the feeling. There are some states in our own country which are like heaven. Every family of this state is blessed by Goddess Lakshmi. It rains dollars and not rupees here.
Actually, we are talking about the state of Kerala. It is as beautiful as it is naturally and has as much economic prosperity. According to a recent report, all records of remittances coming from abroad in the state have been broken. In the year 2023, people living outside Kerala sent an amount of Rs 2.16 lakh crore. If it is divided according to each family, then this amount comes to about Rs 2.2 lakh per family.
This means that every family in this state received an average of Rs 2.2 lakh from abroad last year. Kerala’s performance in terms of remittances was excellent last year. You can estimate the magnitude of this amount from the fact that the cost of free ration provided by the central government to about 80 crore poor people of the country every month is only Rs 2.05 lakh crore.
This amount is about one-fourth (23.2%) of Kerala’s net state domestic product. This is the reason why the per capita income in the state is about Rs 2.64 lakh. Whereas the per capita income in Bihar is only Rs 54 thousand and in Uttar Pradesh the per capita income is about Rs 71 thousand.
No one is poor!
According to a 2023 report of NITI Aayog, the poverty rate in this state is the lowest in the country. During 2019-21, only 0.55 percent of the total population, i.e. only one person in about 200 people, lived below the poverty line. On the other hand, if we talk about Bihar, then 26.6 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. The condition of Uttar Pradesh is also not very good. About 23 percent of the population there is below the poverty line.
Then we return to Kerala
According to a report by Times of India, people of Kerala use this money very wisely. Out of this, they save about 22% of the money, invest 22%. They spend 26% on repaying loans and spend 4% on education.
According to the report, 22 lakh people from Kerala migrated abroad last year. This report claims that in many families, all the members live abroad. According to an estimate, all the members of about 4.2 lakh families live abroad. It claims that about 50 lakh people from Kerala live outside the country. Apart from this, about 30 lakh people have settled in other states of the country.
A large number of Muslims are living abroad
Muslims make up about 29.3 percent of Kerala’s population. But most of their members live abroad. They account for about 42 percent of Kerala’s total population living abroad. Christians are second, with a population of about 17 percent but their share among the people living abroad is 22.3 percent. The Hindu community has the largest population in the state. There are 53.2 percent Hindus here but their share in the population living abroad is only 35 percent.
