Violence in Bangladesh.
New Delhi: Amid the coup in Bangladesh after heavy violence, now the Supreme Court Bar Association of India (SCBA) has asked Dhaka for the answer. Outgoing SCBA President and Senior Advocate Adish C. Agarwal has written a letter to the President of the Bar Association of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh seeking information whether the country’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had committed any “extradable offence”. Agarwal has also requested the President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association to ensure that Hindus are not deliberately targeted during the unrest in the neighboring country.
The letter, addressed to A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon, said the legal community of the two countries works closely. “I read in reports that in your capacity as President of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Bangladesh, you have urged that India should arrest former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana and send them back to Bangladesh,” the letter said. It said as per the 2013 extradition treaty between the two countries, it is mandatory that there must be an “extradable offence”. “There is no news that Sheikh Hasina and her sister have been charged in any criminal case,” the letter said.
Do not intentionally target Hindus
He said, “If you claim that Sheikh Hasina and her sister have been accused of any crime and if the Bangladesh government has requested extradition from the Indian government, please provide me the said information immediately, so that we can put pressure on the Indian government to extradite them to Bangladesh. “It said, “The Bar is a champion of human rights. Reports have said that during the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, Hindu homes and businesses as well as temples have been targeted, looted and damaged. I would also like to request you on this occasion to ensure that Hindus are not deliberately targeted in Bangladesh. ” (Language)
