Summary
Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi slammed the government, saying the interesting thing is that those who criticize India’s first PM Nehru are using non-aligned policy to justify their position in the United Nations
Several opposition leaders on Saturday criticized the government after India abstained from voting on a UN Security Council resolution over Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Opposition leaders said it needs to stand against the wrong and not stand aside. During this, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said that those criticizing Nehru are using non-alignment policy to justify their position in the United Nations.
Regarding India’s policy on UNSC resolution, Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said that a time comes when nations need to stand against wrong and not stand aside. He said friends should also be told when they are wrong. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also supported him and wrote that an attack is an attack, the government should tell its friend Russia. Tharoor said that if only friends cannot talk honestly to each other, then friendship has no value.
Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi surrounded the government regarding this. He said that the interesting thing is that those who criticize India’s first PM Nehru are using non-aligned policy to justify their position in the United Nations. He further said that abstaining from voting against war does not improve the relationship but weakens the principles against violence and human rights violations. He said that we stood on the same resolution as China, which says a lot about our foreign policy.
The 15-member UN Security Council voted on Friday on a resolution condemning Russia. In the voting 11 countries voted in favor of the proposal. During this Russia opposed it. Whereas India, China and the United Arab Emirates remained neutral in the voting. The resolution brought by the US in the Security Council could not be passed due to the use of Russia’s veto power.
