The country’s largest airline company IndiGo has made a big announcement regarding the number of women in the company. IndiGo is moving ahead with the goal of increasing the number of women pilots in its workforce to more than 1,000 by next year. The airline company, which is expanding its fleet and network, currently has more than 800 women pilots. The airline company has announced this scheme as part of its efforts to promote diversity and inclusiveness in IndiGo.
The number of women employees working in engineering increased by 30 percent
Sukhjeet S. Pasricha, Group Chief HR, IndiGo said that the national airline is promoting inclusivity in a big way by working in every department including engineering and flight staff. He said, “We are promoting diversity and inclusivity in every work area. We adopt a 360-degree approach for this. The number of women in engineering has increased by about 30 percent overall.”
By August 2025, the number of women pilots will exceed 1000
According to Sukhjeet S. Pasricha, IndiGo has the highest number of women pilots, now more than 800. The company has around 14 percent women pilots, while the global average is seven to nine percent women pilots. He said, “We will cross the number of 1,000 women pilots in a year (by August 2025).”
The country’s largest company has more than 5000 pilots
This indigenous airline company, which operates more than 2,000 flights daily, currently has more than 5,000 pilots. On Wednesday, IndiGo added 77 women pilots for its Airbus and ATR aircraft to celebrate 77 years of the country’s independence. The airline had 36,860 permanent employees as of March 31, 2024, including 5,038 pilots and 9,363 cabin crew. The count included 713 women pilots. It also includes employees from the LGBTQ category.
