The country’s largest airline Indigo has shocked its customers. The company has increased the charge for selecting the preferred seat. The decision to increase the seat selection charge has come at such a time. When just a few days ago the airline has decided to withdraw the fuel charge.
Hindustan Times report said that up to Rs 2000 is being charged by the airline for choosing a seat as per one’s wish. This charge is being taken for the XL seat which comes with more legroom. However, this charge is not applicable for all XL seats.
Charges from Rs 150 to Rs 2000
The airline is charging between Rs 150 and Rs 2000. Some XL seats are being charged by the airline from Rs 1400 to Rs 2000. The airline is not charging any fee for middle seats. There is no change in terms of seat selection on flights operated by the ATR 72-600, of which the airline has more than 40.
Charges reduced for these seats
The airline has reduced the charges for 2nd and 3rd row of the Airbus fleet from Rs 450 to Rs 400. For A320s which form the majority of IndiGo’s fleet, the charges for rows 11 and 14 to 20 have increased by ₹250. It has become Rs 400 for an aisle or window seat.
Seat charges of other airlines
Apart from IndiGo, others in the country like Akasa and Air India also charge for seats. Seat charges at Akasa range from Rs 150 to Rs 1500. At the same time, similar charges are being taken by Air India Express also.
