new Delhi . Navies of India and France conducted maritime exercises in the Arabian Sea. The exercise is the twentieth of the bilateral naval exercise between the Indian and French navies, which is being conducted in the Arabian Sea from 30 March to 3 April.
The bilateral naval exercise between the two navies was started in 1993. The exercise was named ‘Varuna’ in 2001 and has become an important part of the Indo-French strategic bilateral relationship.
Various units including ships, submarines, seaplanes, fighter aircraft and helicopters of both the navies are participating in the exercise.
These units will endeavor to enhance and improve their operational skills at sea and will demonstrate their commitment to promote peace, security and stability in the region.
Having grown in scope over the years, the Varuna series of exercises continues to provide learning opportunities to both the navies.
