Mandhana was kept under observation after she suffered a head injury during the team’s first warm-up match against South Africa on Sunday. He batted brilliantly just two days after the injury and took India’s score to 258 runs in 50 overs. In reply, the West Indies team could only manage 177 runs for nine wickets.
Mithali Raj won the toss and decided to bat first. However, the 2017 runners-up Indian team had a poor start and Shafali Verma was dismissed without opening the account by Chinelle Henry. After this Deepti Sharma and Mandhana came to the crease and shared 117 runs for the second wicket. Mandhana made 66 runs in 67 balls with the help of seven fours. Cheri Un Fraser took his catch on his own ball. Deepti scored 51 runs in 64 balls which included one four. Captain Mithali Raj contributed 30 runs in 42 balls while Yastika Bhatia scored 42 runs in 53 balls.
West Indies got off to a poor start as they lost four wickets for 53 runs. Wicketkeeper Shemaine Campbell scored 63 runs in 81 balls while Haley Mathews contributed 44 runs in 61 balls. Apart from these two, no batsman could survive. For India, Pooja Vastrakar took three wickets for 21 runs in seven overs while Meghna Singh and Deepti got two wickets each.
India had earlier defeated South Africa by two runs in the first warm-up match on Sunday. The team has to face Pakistan in the first match of the World Cup, so both the victories can prove to be very beneficial for them.
