Colombo. Sri Lanka’s Department of Census and Statistics has announced that the overall rate of inflation for February 2022, as measured on a year-by-year basis according to the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI), has risen to 17.5 percent, the highest since 2015.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, the NCPI in the 2012/13 Household Income and Expenditure Survey has given importance based on consumer spending and reflected new methods in line with best international practices.
Inflation calculated for January 2022 is 16.8 per cent.
The higher inflation in the month of February 2022 is mainly on account of higher price levels in both food and non-food categories.
The year-on-year inflation for the food category rose to 24.7 per cent in February 2022 from 24.4 per cent in January 2022, and the non-food group inflation rose to 11 per cent in February 2022 from 10.2 per cent in the previous month.
