New Delhi. The Delhi High Court on Monday rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition in which he had challenged his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the corruption case related to the liquor policy. During the debate on Kejriwal’s arrest and bail petition in the High Court, Abhishek Manu Singhvi argued that the arrest of my client is an insurance arrest by the CBI. However, during the debate on the bail petition, the CBI had said that Singhvi’s argument is baseless.
While disposing of Kejriwal’s bail plea, Justice Neena Bansal Krishna allowed him to approach the lower court for relief. The judge said that it cannot be said that Kejriwal’s arrest was done without any proper reason or was illegal. The Delhi High Court had reserved its decision on the bail plea of the AAP leader in the CBI case. Earlier, the CBI had filed its chargesheet against the AAP supremo and other accused in a special court in Delhi.
On the other hand, ED has already filed a chargesheet in the money laundering case, in which Aam Aadmi Party and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal have been made accused. On July 12, the Supreme Court had ordered the release of CM Kejriwal on interim bail in the money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). However, he has not been able to come out of jail since he was arrested by the CBI. Meanwhile, a Delhi court has extended the judicial custody of CM Kejriwal till August 9 in the CBI case and till August 13 in the money laundering case.
Kejriwal has been in jail for 115 days. Arvind Kejriwal has already been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in the ED case, but due to the rejection of the petition in the CBI case, Kejriwal will have to remain in jail for now.
