Why Mangoes Should Be Soaked: As soon as summer arrives, sunlight and sweat often spoil the mood. But there is one thing that comes with summer and everyone likes its sweetness. That is ‘Aam’. In olden times, whenever mangoes were plucked from trees in villages, elders always advised to soak them in water and then eat them. However, gradually refrigerators have come into homes and now the trend of eating mangoes after dipping them in water is coming to an end. But is it enough to keep mangoes in the fridge? Does keeping mango in the fridge and cooling it eliminates the need to soak it in water? Let us know from dietitian Dr. Shweta Shah what she says about it.
Mango is full of nutrients
Mango is a good source of essential nutrients like vitamins A and C. Which is very good for immunity, your eyesight and the health of your skin. Mango is also rich in dietary fiber which also helps in digestion and managing weight. Along with fiber, mangoes are also rich in antioxidants like betacarotene and flavonoids, which protect the body cells from getting damaged. Mango also contains potassium, magnesium and vitamin K which is good for your heart health. Studies conducted on some animals have also revealed that this fruit also works for heart health and reducing cholesterol levels.

Why should mango be soaked before eating?
Dietician and nutritionist Dr. Shweta Shah tells in her Instagram video that actually Phytic acid is found in mango. If this phytic acid enters the body, it stops the digestion of many nutrients like zinc, iron and antioxidants. Not only this, the active compound found in the outer skin of mango prevents the nutrients found inside the mango from entering the body. The good thing is that phytic acid dissolves in water. When mango is soaked in water, the phytic acid found inside the mango dissolves in water and comes out. This is the reason why in ancient times, mangoes were always soaked in water before eating.

By soaking mango, the pesticides and dirt on it are also removed. By keeping the mango soaked in water, the skin of the mango also becomes soft, after which it becomes easier to cut. Apart from this, when you keep mango immersed in water, this fruit absorbs water. This can also increase the sweetness of mango. Also, keeping mangoes immersed in water increases their moisture and they can be stored for a long time.
