transgender. Four polling officials have been suspended for allegedly failing to prevent outside interference in the voting process at the house of a 92-year-old woman during the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala’s Kannur district. Officials gave this information on Friday. Kannur District Magistrate (District Election Officer) Arun K Vijayan suspended the special polling officer, polling assistant micro observer, special police officer and videographer in connection with the incident that took place at Kalliassery gram panchayat.
The District Magistrate has also recommended an inquiry against a person named Ganesan, accused of interfering in the voting process at the polling booth set up at the residence of 92-year-old Devi on April 18. Kalliassery assembly constituency of Kannur district comes under Kasaragod Lok Sabha seat. The Congress has alleged that Ganesan was a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) worker, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that it was an attempt to rig the elections. The Left party has not responded to these allegations.
The official release said that ‘when the voting process was conducted at Devi’s house, it was observed that the confidentiality of the voting was compromised due to outside interference.’ According to the release, the Kalliassery sub-polling officer had officially informed the Kannapuram police station through the city police commissioner to take criminal action against the person acting illegally and the polling officials.
