The country’s oldest political party Congress is currently struggling with serious internal controversies. Differences within the party are coming out openly. In particular, Karnataka and Jammu and Kashmir have emerged as two such states where the inner tussle of the Congress is in the media headlines. On the one hand, there is a tussle over the post of Chief Minister in Karnataka, on the other hand, the voices of protest against state president Tariq Hameed Karra have intensified in Jammu and Kashmir.
Politics heated by demand of ‘CM Badalo’ in Karnataka
The internal battle of the Congress in Karnataka is now openly revealed. Differences between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivkumar have been in discussion for a long time, but now the dispute has reached the party high command.
Factionalism in the Karnataka Congress has dominated so much that senior leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge have also hit the ball directly in the high command. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and state in -charge Randeep Surjewala has been called from Delhi to Bengaluru, so that they can control the situation. An MLA who supported Deputy CM DK Shivkumar even claimed that he had the support of 100 MLAs. He also said that this is the right time to change the Chief Minister. After this statement came, the party has become further intensified.
‘Tariq Karra vs. Senior Leader’ controversy in Jammu and Kashmir Congress
Apart from Karnataka, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress is also going through serious internal conflict. Here, dissatisfaction with the state president Tariq Hamid Karra is constantly deepening. Karra, who is considered to be Rahul Gandhi’s choice, is accused of not giving importance to senior leaders and is trying to do his own politics by wandering from the real issues of the party. Many senior leaders have openly protested against his working style.
Recently, when Congress General Secretary Syed Nasir Hussain arrived in Srinagar and a banquet was organized in his honor, it did not include many dissatisfied leaders of the party, which gave clear indication that the differences in the party had become very deep.
Mobilization against Karra
About 20 senior leaders have sought time to meet the Congress high command against state president Tariq Karra. These leaders include:
Former state president Vicar Rasul Wani
Senior leader Ghulam Nabi Monga
Former Deputy CM Tara Chand
These leaders say that Karra is ignoring the state leaders and the party’s condition is deteriorating at the ground level.
The situation of Congress in Jammu and Kashmir is already very weak. The party could not win a single seat in the recent elections, after which dissatisfaction has become faster.
Danger bell for party
This internal discord in the Congress has come to light at a time when the party has not yet recovered from the crushing defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On the one hand, Rahul Gandhi is busy strengthening the Bharat Jigo Yatra and opposition alliance India, on the other hand the party’s unity is in danger at the state level. Experts believe that if the Congress high command could not control this internal discord in time, it could have a direct impact on the upcoming assembly elections and the credibility of the party.
