International Moon Day
Washington: Today, 20th July is being celebrated as International Moon Day all over the world. Actually, this day is celebrated in memory of the first steps of mankind on the moon. American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on the moon on 20th July 1969. These people were sent there under the Apollo 11 lunar mission of the US Space Agency.
The announcement to celebrate this day was made in the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly held on 9 December 2021. This day is celebrated every year on 20 July.
What is the history?
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy set the bold goal of landing a man on the Moon before the end of the decade. NASA’s Apollo program was born, and after years of intensive research, development, and testing, the Apollo 11 mission was launched on July 16, 1969.
Four days later, Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the lunar surface. They famously declared, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
The Apollo 11 mission paved the way for future space research, inspiring new generations to pursue careers in STEM fields and advances in technology, medicine, and environmental science. In the end, International Moon Day is a celebration of human achievement and scientific progress.
