International Women’s Day: By fulfilling the words of Mahatma Gandhi, today’s self-sufficient women have proved to be true on every test of development. For centuries, women were considered weaker and inferior than men. But now the situation is changing, today’s strong women are taking charge of their own lives, they are performing well in roles which were once dominated by men. Be it working in factories, flying fighter jets or joining the army.
When 24-year-old Savita from Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh returned to her village after joining the Indian Army, she was greeted by patriotic songs accompanied by garlands and drums. Dr Swati Tiwari, another famous Hindi writer from Bhopal, won the ‘National Ladli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity’ by writing a book on the lives of widows of Bhopal Gas Tragedy. While men have dominated sports for decades, women, especially those living in the villages and towns of India, have shown that a lot can be achieved with passion. For example, 22-year-old Pooja Vastrakar from Shahdol district is making a name for herself in the cricket world as a batsman. There are countless names who have changed the direction and condition of society and family with their passion in difficult circumstances.
It is often said that if you educate one woman, you educate the whole family. Women from socio-economic classes have recognized the importance of education and skill training. They know that the gap of backwardness can be bridged by building a bridge of education. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has started several women empowerment campaigns to help women get their due status in the society, with the aim of helping underprivileged women become self-reliant by engaging in skill training programs and helping them become self-reliant as well as their own. To move the family forward.
Another important initiative is the Didi Vahan Seva Yojana, launched by the women of the Rural Livelihood Mission in the tribal-dominated Jhabua district of the state. In order to encourage women start-ups, the government has launched a start-up policy and implementation plan, in which an additional 20 percent assistance is being provided to start-ups set up by women. One Stop Centers are being operated in all 52 districts of the State to provide shelter, counselling, medical aid, legal aid and police assistance to the victims of violence.
Talking about the industry sector and the opportunities it provides, the representation of women has always been low, although now this sector is also moving towards hiring women and giving new opportunities. Women’s participation in the operations of Hindustan Zinc Limited is breaking perceptions.
This is India’s first woman manager-led mine. The upcoming Bandar Diamond project is a step towards self-reliant Bundelkhand which will provide hundreds of jobs to the local people including youth and women. The project will lead to economic activities of about Rs 40,000 crore in the region, including a contribution of about Rs 28,000 crore to the exchequer, which will generate employment opportunities. Along with the economic development due to the project, the Bandar Diamond Project will also focus on social impact through its CSR activities.
Several organizations have taken forward education and skill development among women through various initiatives within the ambit of CSR. For example, Jeevan Jyoti by Sterlite, Salon-I by Godrej, Project Sakhi by Hindustan Zinc Ltd and women empowerment initiatives by Aditya Birla Group, are examples of positive change in women in areas where projects have taken up. In such a situation, taking a look at the achievements of Indian women, it seems that they are inspiring generations. Celebration of women’s achievements should go on not only on International Women’s Day but throughout the year.
