Sambhal district administration has ordered an inquiry to find out whether the land on which the local dargah is built is the property of Waqf or not. According to the complaint, a person named Shahid Mian illegally occupied the Dargah of Dada Maujmiya Shah on Waqf’s land in Janeta Gram Panchayat of Baniakheda development block of Chandausi. Medical clinic complainant Javed, who was running on the encroached land, said that the accused was also running an unauthorized medical clinic on the encroached land. The complaint alleged that Waqf’s land has been lying vacant from 2019 without “Mutavalli” or caretaker, however, Shahid was allegedly earning a significant income from “the annual Urs festival held at the dargah”. Tehsildar Dhirendra Pratap Singh of Chandausi said that the property under consideration is not registered as Waqf land in the revenue records and the ongoing investigation will now focus on financial transactions related to the dargah from 2019.
Property Waqf not registered as land
The complaint came after the implementation of the Waqf Act on 3 April. Talking to media persons, Singh said that he had earlier received complaints about the dargah in Janeta. He said, “Shahid Mian has been asked to provide documents related to Mian, some of which he has already submitted. Further action will be decided after a thorough investigation of these documents.”
The Tehsildar also said that the property of the dargah is not registered as Waqf land in the revenue records. He said, “This raises questions on the basis on which it was being claimed to have Waqf land. It will be the main center of investigation.”
