England’s fast bowler Mark Wood is also one of the recipients of the hefty amount, who was joined by Lucknow Super Giants by spending Rs 7.50 crore. There was a competition between Delhi, Chennai and Lucknow to buy the wood with a base price of Rs 2 crore but the new franchise Lucknow was successful in buying them.
Mark Wood has reacted for the first time after getting a big buck at the auction. The England pacer expressed surprise, saying “Getting a contract in the IPL was like playing a computer game like ‘Football Manager’ – “not real at all”.
He told The Guardian: “As soon as the final amount was confirmed, Sarah asked what it was in pounds – I might have to freeze all my accounts so it doesn’t disappear, but we’re happy. This one Strange experience. It feels like a computer game – not nearly as real, like Transfer on Football Managers – but it’s also very real when you’re signed up.”
The 32-year-old cricketer, who played IPL for Chennai Super Kings in 2018 withdrew from last year’s auction due to spending time with family.
