The 26th match of the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was played between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals. Everyone expected a better performance from the Lucknow team playing on its home ground, but in this match, it had lost 7 wickets till the score of 94 while batting first. However, on the basis of the partnership between Ayush Badoni and Arshad Khan for the 8th wicket, Lucknow Super Giants managed to reach the score of 167 at the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. After this, Delhi did not have a good start in chasing the target but on the basis of captain Rishabh Pant’s 41 and IPL debutant Jack Fraser McGurk’s 55 runs, they achieved it at the loss of 4 wickets in 18.1 overs. After the defeat in this match, Lucknow team captain KL Rahul cited poor batting as the major reason for the defeat.
We started well but couldn’t sustain it
After the defeat in the match against Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants team captain KL Rahul said in his statement that we scored 15 to 20 runs less in batting in this match. We had a good start in batting but later we suddenly fell apart. On this pitch we should have scored up to 180 runs. The ball was staying very low on the pitch, but Kuldeep troubled us a lot with his balls. Whereas Jack Fraser McGurk, who is playing in IPL for the first time, we have seen a lot of videos of his batting but he played much better shots. In bowling, we definitely got the wicket of David Warner during the power play and the match was in our hands for 10 overs but dropping catches proved to be very costly for us in which Pant and Fraser again did not give us any chance to come back in this match.
This was the reason behind sending Puran to bat early
KL Rahul further said in his statement that when Akshar Patel bowled, he did not get much spin, so in such a situation, we decided to send Puran early so that pressure can be put on the bowlers, but we should give credit to Kuldeep who played a lot. Brilliant bowling in this match. While giving an update on Mayank Yadav, Rahul also said that now he is much better than before but we do not want to be in any hurry regarding him. We will have to take care of him so that he returns to the field only after he is completely fit.
