In the 9th match of the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals team defeated Delhi Capitals by 12 runs and achieved its second consecutive win in this season. A shocking incident was also seen during this match when head coach Ricky Ponting and team director Sourav Ganguly, sitting in the dugout of Delhi Capitals, were seen arguing with the fourth umpire regarding a rule. In this match, Rajasthan Royals team, batting first, scored 185 runs in 20 overs, while Delhi Capitals team, while chasing the target, managed to reach the score of 173 runs in 20 overs.
Ponting-Ganguly confused over impact player rule
In this match, Rajasthan Royals team included only 3 foreign players in their playing 11, after which they included Nandre Berger from Impact player in place of Shimron Hetmyer. Meanwhile, when Delhi Capitals team was chasing the target, Rovman Powell was called inside the field as a substitute fielder. Due to this, Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly had a fight with the fourth umpire, in which they felt that Rajasthan Royals had used the impact player rule for the second time. However, later the fourth umpire explained to him the entire situation in which Powell had come to field in the match as the 12th man and as per the rules, he was also the fourth foreign player on the field.
Nandre Berger and Yuzvendra Chahal showed wonders with the ball for Rajasthan.
Talking about this match, Rajasthan Royals team saw excellent performance with the ball from Nandre Berger and Yuzvendra Chahal in which both took 2-2 wickets. While Chahal gave only 19 runs in his 3 overs, Nandre Berger gave 29 runs. Rajasthan Royals team now has to play its next match this season against Mumbai Indians on 1 April.
