Tehran/Doha/Washington | The tension in the Middle East late on Monday night reached the peak when Iran fired 6 ballistic missiles on the Al-Udid airbase near Doha, the capital of Qatar. This airbase is the largest and strategic military base of the US in the middle of the middle East. Around 8,000 to 10,000 American soldiers are deployed here. Iran’s official news agency Tasnim claimed that the attack was carried out in response to the recent attacks on Iranian nuclear bases. According to the report, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards targeted American bases in Qatar and Iraq together.
Qatar’s response: airspace closed, security link
Qatar’s government has issued a statement saying that the National Aircraft was discontinued shortly before the attacks, causing no civilian flight damage.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry claimed that his air defense system stopped the missiles in a middle, causing no casualties. At the same time, Qatar has warned Iran that if such actions are repeated, they will be forced to take retaliation.
Pentagon confirms: US on alert
The US Ministry of Defense Pentagon has also confirmed the attack. The Pentagon said in a statement that Iran has attacked the Al-Udeed airbase with small and medium-distance missiles, but there was no major damage due to air defense.
The statement also said that the US will keep all the options open to protect its soldiers and assets.
Why is Al-Udid airbase important?
It is the headquarters of the Air Operations of the US Central Command (Central) in the Middle East.
Qatar gave this base to the US in 2000 for use.
From here the US conducts its military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This base is also part of the rotation of the British Army soldiers.
It has the longest airlanding strip in the Gulf region.
Air India canceled flights
After the incident, Air India immediately issued a statement to temporarily canceled all its flights on the Middle East Route. The airline said it has diverted several flights to alternative routes and the safety of passengers is being given the first priority.
An Air India spokesman said, “We are constantly in touch with the government and the International Aviation Authorities. At present, no risk can be taken.”
Regional situation and further apprehension
The situation in the Middle East is very tense at this time.
Military tension between Iran and Israel
America’s direct military presence
Sensitive geopolitical status of countries like Qatar, Iraq and Syria
In the midst of all this, this attack is considered to be the beginning of a possible major struggle. The international community, especially the United Nations and the European Union, have appealed for restraint and dialogue to find a solution.
Waiting for India’s response
So far no official response has been revealed by the Government of India, but according to sources, the Ministry of External Affairs is keeping a close watch on this entire incident. Thousands of citizens of India are working in Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman, whose government is cautious about safety.
Iran’s attack indicates the changing strategic picture of the Middle East. It is a strict warning for the US and its allies that Iran is no longer defensive, but is adopting an aggressive strategy. In the coming days, it will be important to see what will be the next military or diplomatic move of America and whether this conflict will turn into an open war or will be controlled at diplomatic level.
