Islamabad: Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi is on a three-day visit to Pakistan. President Raisi’s visit comes a few months after Iran and Pakistan carried out air strikes on the other’s alleged terrorist targets. Meanwhile, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir have discussed regional peace, stability and border security.
Meeting of General Munir and Raisi
Pakistan Army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said General Munir met Iranian President Raisi and stressed the need for “better coordination” against terrorists. General Munir described the Pakistan-Iran border as “the border of peace and friendship”. General Munir stressed the need for better coordination along the border to prevent terrorists from endangering the age-old ties of brotherhood between the two neighboring countries. “Both sides agreed on the need to promote bilateral cooperation while jointly striving for regional stability and economic prosperity,” the ISPR statement said.
PM Shahbaz Sharif meets Raisi
Raisi is the first head of state from any country to visit Pakistan after the general elections held on February 8. The Iranian President arrived at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday morning where he was welcomed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The Foreign Office had earlier said Raisi would visit Lahore and Karachi as well as meet provincial leaders. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday met Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and discussed ways to promote bilateral relations at political, economic, trade and cultural levels. (Language)
