Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli
Team India looks fully prepared for the Super 8 round in the T20 World Cup. Team India’s morale is high due to winning all the matches played during the group stage and being at the first position in the points table. However, the poor form of Indian openers and Team India’s star batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli is not a good sign for India. If Team India has to do well in its next round, then it is very important for Rohit and Virat to get into form as soon as possible. However, a former Indian player believes that if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play decisive innings in big matches like the semi-finals or finals of the T20 World Cup, then their performance in the group stage will not matter much.
Big statement of Manjrekar
Virat Kohli has been able to score only 5 runs in the three matches he has played so far in the tournament. Rohit scored a half-century against Ireland but his bat failed against Pakistan and America. Manjrekar told PTI that if you have selected players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, then you have given priority to experience. You want to take your experienced players to the World Cup so that they perform well when it is really needed. So I have no problem with the fact that some of these players are not in form. If these players make the team victorious by playing a decisive innings in the semi-finals or finals, then similar performance is expected from your senior players.
Manjrekar further said in his statement that if any of your young players performs well then it is a bonus for you like Inzamam-ul-Haq did for Pakistan in the 1992 World Cup. Senior players should contribute more and I think this is the reason why the selection committee has given priority to experience for the T20 World Cup.
Competition with these teams in Super 8
India will enter the Super 8 as the A1 team. With this, it has also been decided that India will face Australia and Afghanistan there. Both Australia and Afghanistan have not lost a single match in their respective groups. That means there is a strong possibility of a tough match. India’s third match will be against the second best team of Group D. In Group D, South Africa has already secured qualification with three wins in three matches, while Bangladesh and Netherlands are fighting for the second slot.
