There was a time when summer holidays were given to school children in May-June so that they could spend time with their grandparents. They could go on a trip and have fun and get mentally and physically ready for the whole year by taking two months of rest. But now holidays are given only for one month, June. Even in that, children are given such a huge amount of homework that the child can hardly complete that homework in the entire vacation.
Recently, parents were shocked to see the holiday homework given by the schools to small children in many schools of Haryana. The schools gave such homework to the children of nursery, LKG, UKG and primary classes that after seeing it, parents started asking each other whether this is school homework or a NASA project? Are the schools going to make nursery children scientists?

We have got such homework from schools
Haryana Parents Unity Forum has complained to CBSE, Chief Minister, Education Minister and Child Rights and Protection Commission about holiday homework. Accusing the private school managements, parents said that in many schools, during summer vacations, children from nursery, LKG, UKG to primary classes have been given heavy homework like making electric circuits, 3D model of amusement park, project of Delhi Metro and flyover, making Eiffel Tower of thermocol, working model of computer, dictionary of math formulas from culture.
What should parents do?
The forum complained to CBSE that such young children have been given such professional projects to make about which the students have no knowledge. Tired of this, the children are taking the help of their parents to complete their homework. Those whose parents are educated help them in completing their homework or get it done, but the children whose parents are not much educated are forced to pay money to get their homework done by professionals. This is not only troubling the parents but also making money for the professionals and shopkeepers.
What happens to these projects…
The forum alleged that such projects are made by children but later they adorn the school’s showcase or are thrown in the store. The forum’s state general secretary Kailash Sharma has said that by giving homework, the school management is violating the rule of CBSE and Haryana Education Manual which states that homework should not be given to children up to pre-primary and primary classes. Homework has nothing to do with the grades of children. The forum has demanded appropriate action against the guilty schools in this matter.
