Kinshasa: Terrorists affiliated with the Islamic State group (ISIS) have carried out deadly attacks in north-eastern Congo. At least 16 villagers have died in these attacks. Along with this, the terrorists have kidnapped 20 other people. This has created panic in the entire village. A local civil society group gave this information on Friday. John Wulverio, coordinator of the ‘New Civil Society of Congo’, said that attackers of the ‘Allied Democratic Forces’ attacked the local people in the Mambasa area of Ituri province between Wednesday and Friday when they were working in their fields.
He said, “The number of dead is not clear yet, because there is no information about the 20 other people who have been kidnapped. He indicated that the death toll may increase further. Because the attack is being reported to be very deadly. Many people have been seriously injured in this. ” Local media reported that the kidnapped people also included the mother and sister of Gilbert Shivamwenda, a local government official. Many villages in Congo have been surrounded by local rebels or extremist terrorist groups fighting for power and valuable mineral resources. (AP)
