Israel Iran War: Iran fired air defense batteries after explosions were heard near Isfahan airport. These sounds, heard a few days after Iran’s drone and missile attacks on Israel, have raised fears of a possible Israeli attack. No Iranian official has directly acknowledged this apprehension and the Israeli military has also not commented on it. In such a situation, it is not yet clear whether Iran has been attacked. An Iranian government official and later Iran’s state television broadcaster IRNA indicated that the sites were probably targeted by drones.
explosions were heard
IRNA said rescue units were activated in several provinces. He did not say why the batteries were fired but people nearby reported hearing sounds. IRNA reported that air defense batteries were fired from a major airport in Isfahan. Semi-official news agencies Fars and Tasnim also reported hearing explosions but did not specify the cause. The state television channel also reported hearing a “loud noise” in the area. Isfahan is also the center of sites related to Iran’s nuclear program. State television channels described all sites in the area as “completely safe”.
changed air routes
Dubai’s airlines Emirates and flydubai began rerouting flights around western Iran at around 4:30 a.m. local time, but did not provide any explanation. Local warnings to pilots indicated that the airspace was probably closed. Iran later announced it had halted commercial flights over Tehran and its western and central regions.
shoot down drone
Hussein Delirian, a spokesman for Iran’s civilian space program, said on the social media platform ‘X’ that several small drones had been shot down. A reporter for a state television channel in Isfahan also said, “Several small drones were flying in the airspace of Isfahan, which were fired upon.” (AP)
