The war between Israel and Hamas has been going on for several months. This war is getting more fierce day by day. The Israeli army is constantly carrying out air and ground attacks to eliminate Hamas. Meanwhile, Hamas attacked Israel’s capital Tel Aviv with rockets on Sunday. After this, in retaliation, Israel has heavily bombed Rafah, the southernmost city of the Gaza Strip, killing at least 35 Palestinians. Many others were trapped in the burning debris. Gaza’s Health Ministry said that most of the dead included women and children.
Israeli army fired 8 rockets
Thousands of Palestinian refugees in Rafah are living in tents near warehouses of the UN Relief and Works Agency, where the Israeli army fired about eight rockets on Sunday. Local sources told a news agency that it was an “unprecedented” Israeli airstrike on an area densely populated by displaced families, destroying tents made of plastic and tin as well as civilian vehicles.
Sources said civil defence and ambulance workers had a tough time removing the bodies. Palestinian security sources told a news agency that the area had been designated a “safe zone” by the Israeli military before the attack. In a statement issued on Sunday night, Hamas condemned the bombing, calling it a “complete defiance” and “disregard” of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling that had demanded Israel halt its offensive in Rafah.
“Hamas compound in Rafah attacked”
“IDF aircraft struck a Hamas compound in Rafah, where Hamas terrorists were being held,” the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement. “The attack was carried out based on accurate intelligence in accordance with international law,” it added. Earlier on May 7, the Israeli military announced that it had taken control of the Palestinian side of a crossing in the eastern region of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip on the Egyptian border, blocking aid entering Gaza. Israel considers Rafah to be the last stronghold of Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007. (IANS)
