India’s young shooter Saurabh Chaudhary has won the country’s first gold medal in the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Egypt. The 19-year-old Saurabh defeated Germany’s Michael Swald 16-6 in the final of the 10m air pistol event.

Asian champion Saurabh had reached the semi-finals after finishing third with 585 points in the qualification round of the 10m air pistol event. Here he finished on top with 38 points and made it to the finals. In the title match, however, he had a poor start and finished fourth among four players for six rounds. But after that he made a strong comeback and then reached the top after nine rounds of competition.

Apart from Saurabh, no other shooter could make it to the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup. 500 players from 60 countries are participating in this World Cup to be held from 26 February to 8 March.
