Thiruvananthapuram/Thrissur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Alathur Lok Sabha constituency rally on Monday. During this, he fiercely attacked Congress and Marxist Communist Party (CPI-M). He said that the ‘Yuvraj’ of the grand old party could not protect his family’s seat in Uttar Pradesh and has now come to Kerala to seek votes. Modi has accused the ruling Left party of Kerala of looting the poor in the state.
Modi said that people returning from Gulf countries have deposited about one lakh crore rupees. The money deposited by the poor, labor class and women in 300 cooperative banks of the state is in danger due to the corruption of CPI(M). During his public meeting in Kunnamkulam in Alathur Lok Sabha constituency, Modi raised the issue of Karuvannur Co-operative Bank scam and said that it was he who had initiated the investigation into this scam by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
He said that he is now taking legal advice on how investors’ money can be returned from the amount seized by the agencies. The Prime Minister assured that every possible effort will be made to provide assistance to the affected people. He said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Alathur constituency, T N Sarasu, had recently drawn his attention to the plight of people suffering as a result of depositing money in the co-operative bank. This is Modi’s sixth visit to the state. He last came to Kerala on March 19, where voting is to be held on April 26.
Modi said that a lot still remains to be done for the progress of Kerala and the country. He said that whatever was seen in the last decade of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule was just a glimpse. Modi sought support from the people of Kerala for NDA in the Lok Sabha elections. In his address, Modi expressed confidence that Kerala will ensure that its voice is heard in Parliament after the general elections.
Modi also promised that if the NDA government comes to power for the third time, it will start survey work for operating bullet trains in North, East and South India on the lines of Ahmedabad-Mumbai service. Without naming Rahul Gandhi, who is campaigning in his Wayanad constituency in the state, Modi said the Congress’ ‘yuvraj’ could not protect his family’s seat in Uttar Pradesh (a reference to the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, which has been in the hands of the Congress for years). but came to Kerala to seek votes.
Modi said Congress leaders will seek votes from the people of Kerala but will not voice their interest as they are silent on the multi-crore scam in the Karuvannur Co-operative Bank, controlled by the state’s ruling Marxist Communist Party (CPI-M).
Modi said that the Congress party had termed the Left party members as ‘terrorists’. He said, ‘However, in the political scenario of Delhi, Congress and these alleged terrorists are seen having collaborative discussions, sharing food and preparing election strategies together.’ The PM alleged that this was a ‘secret agreement’ between the Congress and the SDPI, the political wing of an organization banned in India for anti-national activities.
Modi continued his attack on the ruling Left in the state by raising issues of the gold smuggling case, corruption allegations against the Kerala Chief Minister and the law and order situation in the southern state. He claimed that Kerala was in the news in recent times for political killings and crimes against women in the state, which is a result of years of ineffective governance by the Congress and the Left.
