The special court of Jaipur on Tuesday sentenced four convicts to life imprisonment in the 2008 Jaipur serial bomb blasts. The four convicts Sarwar Azmi, Shahbaz, Saifurrahman and Mohammad Saif were convicted by the court on 4 April under various sections of the IPC, illegal activities (prevention) Act and Explosive Materials Act. The case is related to the recovery of an unnecessary bomb planted in Chandpol on 13 May 2008. The court has ruled 600 pages in this case. At the same time, 112 evidence, 1192 documents, 102 articles and 125 pages written arguments were presented by the government.
There were sequence of explosions in 2008
On 13 May 2008, there were eight serial blasts in Jaipur and the ninth bomb was found near the guest house at Chandpol Bazaar, which was deactivated just 15 minutes before the blast. The court found Sarwar Azmi, Mohammad Saif, Saif, Saif, Saifrahman and Shahbaz guilty in the case and today sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Earlier in December 2019, the lower court sentenced Sarwar Azmi, Mohammad Saif, Mohammad Salman and Saifurrahman to death in the Jaipur blasts case. At the same time, the fifth accused Shahbaz was acquitted on the benefit of suspicion. The four who were punished challenged the decision in the High Court. The High Court bench acquitted the four on 29 March 2023 and also approved the decision to acquit Shahbaz Hussain.
71 people died
In the evening blasts, 71 people were killed and 185 people were injured. A living bomb was recovered near the Ramchandra temple, which was deactivated by the bomb disposal squad.
