Earlier, in a conversation with French newspaper ‘La Figaro’, Jaishankar had said that the current situation in Ukraine is related to a series of complex developments of the last 30 years. Most countries want a political solution to this crisis. He said that India and France are active for its solution and want a diplomatic solution to it.
Jaishankar was asked why India did not condemn the Russian army gathering on the Ukraine border. To this Jaishankar said that the real question is whether you are trying to find a good solution or are you satisfied with being silent? India can talk to Russia along with other countries and within the ambit of the UN Security Council. He can initiate like France.
America had also expressed hope in the past that India would help it and Western countries in dealing with the Ukraine crisis. Jaishankar has given his balanced response regarding this. Addressing the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), Jaishankar referred to the ever-increasing Indo-French ties and said that both the countries have proved to be reliable partners in tackling security challenges from sea to space and from cyber world to ocean. . He said that the relations between France and India are at their strongest ever since India’s independence 75 years ago.
Quad will help in tackling regional and international challenges
Jaishankar, while addressing the Paris based IFRI, said that the Quad originated in the year 2004. At that time, coordination in dealing with the tsunami had effectively helped in relief operations. This organization will help in tackling regional and international challenges. The basic idea behind the Quad is that together the four countries will help each other and build strong bilateral ties.
