Tokyo: India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday that only cooperation among the ‘Quad’ countries can ensure that the Indo-Pacific region remains free, open, stable and secure. He stressed that this group will last for a long time and will continue to grow stronger. Jaishankar said in his address at the meeting of foreign ministers of the ‘Quad’ (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) countries in Tokyo that the ‘Quad’s’ commitment to doing good for the world resonates far beyond this region.

Political understanding of Quad countries should be strengthened

Jaishankar said, “Only cooperation between us can ensure that the Indo-Pacific region remains free, open, stable, secure and prosperous.” He said, “Therefore it is important that our political understanding is strengthened, our economic partnership progresses, our technology cooperation expands and our people-to-people ties deepen. Our meeting should send a clear message that the ‘Quad’ is here to stay and grow for a long time.”

,These countries are included in ‘Quad’

India, Japan, the US and Australia established the ‘Quad’ in November 2017 to develop a new strategy to keep important sea routes in the Indo-Pacific region free from any influence. The South China Sea is located between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. China claims most of the South China Sea, while the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan also claim this sea area as their part.
