Jaipur . Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to extend the deadline for completing the Jal Jeevan Mission in public interest till March 31, 2026.
Gehlot said that during the initial days of the mission from March 2020 to July 2020, due to the lockdown due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the pace of Jal Jeevan Mission was very slow. After this, in the year 2021 also, the mission work was partially interrupted from March 2021 to July 2021 due to covid-related circumstances.
The Chief Minister has written in the letter that the demand for the components of the project has increased significantly due to the ongoing mission works across the country. The demand for steel, DI and HDPE pipes in particular has increased rapidly. This has resulted in instability in the supply of components, due to which the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission projects has also slowed down. The Chief Minister has said that Rajasthan is the largest state in the country in terms of area and it has heterogeneous geographical conditions and scattered settlements. Two-third of the state is desert and in the south is mountainous area. Earlier the timeline of projects for such difficult areas was 30 to 48 months, but now it has been reduced to 12 to 24 months. This has made achieving the target even more challenging.
Gehlot has informed through the letter that Parwan Akavad Water Supply Project of Baran, Jhalawar and Kota, Rajasthan Rural Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project (Phase-II) for Narmada Canal based project in Barmer district, IGMC based (CP) of Jhunjhunu district. -First) Scheme for providing water by tap to Surajgarh and Udaipurwati, project of drinking water supply from Chambal river to 648 villages of district Chittorgarh, Isarda-Dausa drinking water water supply project, Naunera water supply project, work of major projects like water supply scheme from Chambal river Chances of completion in 24 months are very less.
The Chief Minister has said that due to the war with Russia and Ukraine, there has been an unexpected increase in the prices of many commodities. This also creates difficulties in the implementation of the works. In view of all these situations, Shri Gehlot has requested the Prime Minister to extend the deadline of Jal Jeevan Mission till March 31, 2026, so that every family can get the benefit of this mission.
