New Delhi. After the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has now started preparing for another important voting. This preparation is to conduct elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Jammu and Kashmir is currently a union territory. Fresh delimitation has been implemented here. Under this delimitation, 90 seats have been kept in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. According to the information, the Election Commission can announce the dates of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections this month.
The Election Commission may soon announce the dates for the elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Among the 90 seats for which elections will be held in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, 2 new seats will also be Mata Vaishno Devi and Katra. Under the latest delimitation, 43 assembly seats have been reserved for Jammu and 47 for the Kashmir Valley in the Union Territory Assembly. Out of the 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, 9 have been reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7 for Scheduled Tribes. Under the new delimitation for the Lok Sabha too, there will be 2 seats in Jammu and 2 in Kashmir. Apart from this, half of 1 seat will be in Jammu and half in Kashmir.
The assembly has been dissolved since 2018 after the fall of the coalition government of PDP and BJP in Jammu and Kashmir. In August 2019, the Modi government revoked Article 370 of the Constitution related to Jammu and Kashmir and made it a Union Territory. After this, the work of rectifying the situation started and due to this the assembly elections could not be held. In 2023, the Supreme Court, while rejecting the petitions filed against the abolition of the provisions of 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, directed the Election Commission to complete the elections of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly by September 2024. If we look at the Lok Sabha elections this time, then 58.58 percent of the total voting took place in Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, a large number of people voted in the Kashmir Valley itself and 51.05 percent voting was recorded there. Whereas, earlier people did not come out to vote due to fear of terrorists.
