Uttar Pradesh News Desk: The small canal of Govind Sagar Dam, passing through the dense population of half a dozen localities of the city, has remained a threat to thousands of people for years. People have got into the habit of passing through the stones placed around and above it. For this reason no one responsible considered it appropriate to take steps towards solving the problem.

Govind Sagar Dam was constructed in the year 1951. Two canals were built to deliver dam water to farmers’ fields. In the initial period, the city did not expand and houses were not built around the canals. But, with the passage of time, the form of the city kept on increasing and people started living by building thousands of houses around the canal. At present, dense population has settled around the canal at many places within the city.

At many places in Azadpura Mohalla, traffic is being carried out by placing stones on the canal, due to which there is always a fear of danger. People living in the localities through which this canal passes are always afraid of their children. The reason is that children keep playing on the banks of the canal to protect their eyes. Along with pedestrians, vehicles also keep coming and going around the canal.

The depth of the canal is high and if anyone’s balance is disturbed even a little, he can become a direct victim of an accident. Traffic at night is always painful. In the absence of light, the stones placed on the canal are often not visible in the dark and people fall and get injured. People living nearby raised this problem many times but local public representatives and officials did not pay any attention to it.

The residents of the locality themselves covered it: Lalitpur. People who were serious about the safety of children and elders of their homes covered the canals around their homes with stones or lanterns to avoid accidents. Now people are traveling over it. Constant danger of snakes and other insects: Lalitpur. Poisonous snakes and insects emerge in and around Govind Sagar Dam. After the water is released, it enters people’s homes through the canal. For this reason, the residents of the locality remain in panic after the canal is opened.

The canal has passed through these localities: Karimnagar, Azadpura, Civil Line Sadanshah, Pisnari Bagh Mohalla, ARTO Office Road, area behind Naveen Galla Mandi.
