At least 17 people have been found dead in a nightclub in South Africa’s southern city of East London. Police officials said on Sunday that South African authorities were investigating the deaths of these 17 people. “We have received reports that 17 people have died at a nightclub in Scenery Park in east London,” Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana, a provincial police chief, told AFP. He said officials were still probing the circumstances. Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said people had informed the police about the incident at Scenery Park, about three kilometers from the city.
There is speculation about the reasons for the death of these people, but the officials have not given clear information about the cause of death. He said that the situation would be clear only after investigation. It is being told that the youth of 18-20 are also included in the dead. At the same time, according to a local report, the death toll could be up to 22.
