Congress membership campaign in Madhya Pradesh is at the last stage but Kamal Nath’s target is proving to be a far cry from the trends that have come so far. The poor performance of the party in the assembly elections of five states is clearly visible on the membership drive. In today’s situation, the claims made by the PCC officials are telling some similar situations. Three days are left for the last date of membership and the figure has not yet touched one million members.
The organizational elections of Madhya Pradesh Congress are going on for which the membership drive is in the final stages. Its last date is 31 March and the books which were taken by the District Congress Committees and office bearers for membership, have returned in very small numbers. This membership drive started from November 1, 2021. State Congress Committee President Kamal Nath had set a target of making 50 lakh members this time, to achieve which two lakh 55 thousand books were distributed. 25 members can be made in a book and according to this, about 64 lakh members can be made from the membership target.
The campaign could not even touch the one million mark
State Congress vice-president Prakash Jain has told that so far, two lakh 55 thousand books have been taken by district Congress committees and officials to make membership, from which about nine and a half lakh members have been made. March 31 is the last date and now after making members, committees and office bearers are slowly coming to submit to PCC. Jain said that by March 31, the campaign books would be deposited in the District Congress Committees and then deposited in the State Congress Office.
Misleading rhetoric about membership
At the same time, CP Mittal, co-in-charge of the All India Congress Committee, was seen making misleading statements regarding the target of the Congress membership campaign. In Shajapur, he told the Congress workers that the target has been completed, while the PCC itself does not have the correct information about the number of members.
Kamal Nath had warned not to make fake members
It is worth noting that in the state Congress office, PCC Chief Kamal Nath had clearly said in the meeting of the district presidents that there will be no fraud in making members. It has also come to the fore that due to digitization in the membership drive, the target figure is likely to be left behind.
Poor performance of Congress in five states
The effect of the assembly election results of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Punjab, Goa has also been visible on the membership drive of Madhya Pradesh Congress. The party’s performance in these states was very poor.
Last time 20 lakh members were made
Let us inform here that the last time the membership drive was run between 2011 and 2017. At that time, 20 lakh members were formed in the 2017 membership campaign and the same party had also kept the target.
