Amidst the hustle and bustle of Lok Sabha elections, the internal discord of the Congress party in Delhi has come to the fore. In Delhi, where Congress first wrestled with the alliance with Aam Aadmi Party and then divided the seats. After the distribution of seats, the voices of rebellion from within the party regarding the candidates have intensified. Under the Aam Aadmi alliance, out of seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, Congress has been allotted only three seats to contest. A symbol of this rebellion was seen on Sunday when Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from his post. Lovely has given this information by writing a four-page letter to the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge.
1. Lovely has said in the letter to Kharge that after my appointment as DPCC President, AICC General Secretary (Delhi in-charge) has not allowed me to make any senior appointment in DPCC. Till date AICC General Secretary (Delhi in-charge) has not given permission to DPCC to appoint all the block presidents of the city. As a result, it came out that at present there is no block president in more than 150 blocks of Delhi.
2.Delhi Congress was against alliance with Aam Aadmi Party, yet the party decided to forge an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. As Delhi Congress President, I respected the final decision of the party. I not only publicly supported the decision, but I also ensured that the entire state entity followed the final order of the High Command.
3. In view of the limited number of seats given to the Congress Party under the alliance in Delhi, it is in the interest of the party to ensure that tickets are allotted to others. Of the three seats, North-West Delhi and North-East Delhi were given to candidates who were complete strangers to the Delhi Congress and the party’s policies.
4. The surprising thing is that even after the high command took the decision regarding making Udit Raj and Kanhaiya Kumar as candidates, the PCC was not formally informed first. So that I would have taken at least some necessary precautionary measures.
5.AICC General Secretary (Delhi in-charge) got aggrieved and asked me to suspend Raj Kumar Chauhan (former Delhi Minister), Surendra Kumar (former MLA) and others. Instead of calming the situation, he also had several heated exchanges in public meetings with former MP Sandeep Dixit, Raj Kumar Chauhan (former Delhi Minister), Bhishma Sharma (former MLA) and Surendra Kumar (former MLA).
6.The candidate from North-West Delhi insulted the workers of our own party. They have sent me several written messages after the press conference, asking me to suspend various local generational party leaders.
7.Candidates from North-East Delhi are also giving media bytes by falsely praising the Delhi CM. In direct contrast to the actual factual situation and the suffering of the citizens of Delhi, they supported AAP’s false propaganda regarding the alleged work done by them in the education, health, roads and power sectors.
8. Referring to the alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in a letter written to Kharge, Lovely wrote that an electoral alliance was made with the party which was formed to make false allegations of corruption against the Congress. Besides, the attitude of Delhi Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria has also been cited as the reason for leaving the post.
9.Congress has given ticket to Kanhaiya Kumar from North-East Delhi and former BJP MP and now Congress leader Udit Raj from North-West Delhi. Arvinder Singh Lovely was also angry over making these two leaders candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and also blamed the discord in Delhi Congress on in-charge Deepak Babaria.
10.Rajkumar Chauhan had resigned from the Congress party, the reason for this was that Congress had given ticket to Udit Raj who had joined Congress after switching sides from BJP, due to which Chauhan was very angry. After this, Delhi Congress in-charge Deepak Babaria held a meeting of party leaders, in which fierce verbal attacks were made.
