Srinagar . Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Monday that he enjoyed a morning walk in the famous Tulip Garden in Srinagar. He was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The Union Minister wrote on the social media platform X, “The morning walk was special amidst the vibrant colors of Tulip Garden with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Along with this, it was also a pleasure to meet Dr. Farooq Abdullah Saheb. The best sight of nature and a conversation with warmth and foresight, really it was a special morning.”
On Sunday, Union Minister Rijiju and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated the folk promotion festival in Srinagar. The program celebrated the cultural diversity and artistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and also discussed regional challenges.
The two leaders visited the Tulip Garden in the morning. Known as Asia’s largest tulip garden, this garden is currently open to visitors.
A record 81,452 people came to the Tulip Garden on Sunday. This is the biggest record ever since the foundation stone and inauguration of this garden in 2007, when Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Chief Minister.
This garden is located on the sloping land, with the staircase seven roofs, from which the Dal Lake is seen.
The garden was opened to promote flower cultivation and tourism in the Kashmir Valley. Earlier it was known as Siraj Bagh, which was named Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in 2007.
Around 1.75 million tulip bulbs, all multi-colored, were brought from the Tulip Garden of Amsterdam and grown here.
Apart from tulip, there are 46 types of flowers, including Hycinth, Deffodils and Ranunculus, which were brought from Holland.
Today, this garden is a home of about 77 varieties of tulip. It is maintained by the local Pushpakrishi department, and many gardeners and experts are employed in the garden throughout the year to maintain and grow spring flowers of various varieties and colors.
