Former Punjab Kings captain and opener KL Rahul has given the reason for leaving the team. The team of Punjab Kings wanted to retain Rahul for IPL 2022 but this player decided to go for auction. The new IPL franchise Lucknow Supergiants included KL Rahul in the retained players after spending a hefty amount of Rs 17 crore and appointed the captain of the team. Rahul told that he wanted to see what else he could do, because of this he left Punjab Kings.
Talking to Redbull Cricket, Rahul said “I was with him for four years and I have done very well with him. I just wanted to see what’s in store for me and is there a new journey for me? Obviously It was a tough call. I was associated with Punjab for a long time. I wanted to see if I could do anything else.”

During the auction, Punjab Kings coach Anil Kumble had told that he wanted to retain Rahul but Rahul decided to include himself in the auction and the team respected his decision.
Kumble had said, “Obviously we wanted to retain him (KL Rahul). That’s why we picked him as the captain two years ago. But he decided to go for the auction. We respect that. We respect his decision. Respect. It’s a player’s prerogative.”
After joining Punjab Kings, Rahul made a big splash with the bat. In the last 4 seasons he scored 659, 593, 670 and 626 runs. He also won the Orange Cap in IPL 2020.
Now Rahul is a part of Lucknow Super Giants and his eyes will be on repeating the same performance for this team as well as winning the title. Lucknow will play its first match against Gujarat Titans on March 28.
