Hindus Targeted in Bangladesh
Dhaka: Bangladesh is witnessing widespread violence after Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country. Hindus are being specifically targeted in the capital Dhaka, Chittagong and other areas including Kulna. Prisoners who escaped from jail during the violence are seen roaming openly with weapons. During this violence, many Hindu temples, houses and business establishments have been vandalized. Women have been attacked and at least two Hindu leaders associated with the Awami League party have been killed. The fundamentalists are selectively damaging the properties of Hindus. Be it a temple or a gurudwara, attacks have taken place at every place.
Shops, temples and houses were looted
According to information, the attackers “looted shops, temples and houses and attacked Hindu women.” The districts where religious minorities and their homes or businesses were attacked include Panchagarh, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Bogura, Sirajganj, Sherpur, Kishoreganj, West Jashore, Magura, Narail, Southwest Khulna, Patuakhali, Satkhira, Central Narsingdi, Tangail, Northwest Lakkhipur, Feni, Chittagong and Habiganj.
Police stations were vandalised
According to a report by ‘Dhaka Tribune’, there are no police personnel in police stations in most cities of the country including the capital Dhaka. Police officials have said that more than 400 police stations across the country have been attacked, vandalized, set on fire and looted. An official of the police headquarters said that the police have not seen such a situation since 1971. Clashes have taken place between the police and the violent mob at many places. Many police personnel have been killed in attacks on police stations and other centers.

Singer’s house was burnt down
The 140-year-old house of Bangladesh’s famous singer Rahul Anand in Dhaka’s Dhanmandi has been burnt down by rioters. Before burning it down, the rioters looted the house. His 3000 musical instruments were also destroyed in the looting and arson, many of which he had made with his own hands. Before the mob entered the house, Rahul had gone somewhere else with his wife and son, due to which his and his family’s lives were saved.
VHP expressed concern
Vishwa Hindu Parishad has expressed concern over the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh. International President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Alok Kumar said that minorities are being targeted there. He said that a day earlier, violent mobs targeted 22 houses in Panchgarh district, 20 houses in Jhenaidah and 22 shops in Jessore. He has appealed to the Indian government for the safety of Hindus.
India has its eyes on
The central government has also expressed concern over the targeting of houses, temples and business establishments of Hindus and minorities in Bangladesh. The government says that it is keeping a close eye on the current situation there. Security forces deployed on the Bangladesh border have been ordered to remain alert. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the situation in the neighboring country is worrying, the Indian government is in touch with the existing mechanism there.
