Jammu and Kashmir Police is going to get a new leadership. Senior IPS officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir. He is a 1992 batch IPS officer and his tenure will be till 30 September 2024 as Special Director General (SDG). After this, he will take over as the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir from October 1. Nalin Prabhat was born in 1968 in Thungri village of Manali, Himachal Pradesh. From the beginning of education, he was interested in studies and completed his graduation in B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. After this, he joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) and served in the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Due to his work style and ability, he was deputed to AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre.

How was Nalin Prabhat’s career

Nalin Prabhat has held many important positions in his career. He is currently posted as the Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). Following the order of the Home Ministry, he has been relieved from the post of NSG Director General immediately so that he can join the AGMUT cadre. He has a long association with Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, he has served as Additional Director General and IGP of CRPF in Jammu and Kashmir. During this time he gained extensive experience in dealing with law and order and terrorism in the state.

Nalin Prabhat has been awarded many times for his unique contribution and heroic deeds. He has been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry thrice, Parakram Medal, Police Medal for Meritorious Service, Police Medal for Distinguished Service, and Internal Security Medal (Jammu and Kashmir).

Nalin Prabhat is not a new name for Jammu and Kashmir. He has a long experience of dealing with terrorism and law and order in the state. After his appointment, the security system in the state is expected to be strengthened further. Under his leadership, Jammu and Kashmir Police will be able to carry forward its fight against terrorism more effectively.
