New Delhi . Parliament has approved the proposal for impeachment against Justice Yashwant Verma trapped in ‘Cash scandal’. Under this, a three -member committee will investigate the case. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced a three -member panel to investigate the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma. On March 14, Yashwant Verma’s residence was on fire. Meanwhile, a large amount of cash was recovered from his house. At that time he was a judge of the Delhi High Court. The impeachment motion was signed by a total of 146 Lok Sabha members of the ruling party and the opposition. After this, Speaker Om Birla formed a three -member channel in the Lok Sabha. In the three -member panel, Justice Arvind Kumar of the Supreme Court, Maninder Mohan, Chief Justice of Madras High Court and senior advocate B.V. Acharya is involved.
Supreme Court Judge Arvind Kumar was promoted to the Supreme Court in February 2023. Earlier, he was appointed as Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court in 2009 and became a permanent judge in 2012, while served as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court from 2021 to February 2023. Judge Arvind Kumar, who completed his education in Bengaluru, started practicing in 1987. Three years later, in 1990 he moved to the Karnataka High Court. In 1999, he served as a permanent lawyer of the Government of India and then in 2005 as Assistant Solicitor General.
Born in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava became the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in July. He started practicing in 1987. In January 2005, he was appointed Senior Advocate and was promoted as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court in December 2009. He then became a judge in the Rajasthan High Court in 2021.
Senior Advocate B.V. Acharya is the chairman of the Karnataka Block of the International Jurist Commission since 2019. B.V., born in Belpu village of Udupi Acharya enrolled as an advocate in 1957 and started practicing in Mangaluru. In 1972, he moved to the Karnataka High Court. He served as the Chairman of the Karnataka State Bar Council (1979–1982) and was appointed as Senior Advocate in 1989. BV Acharya was the Advocate General of Karnataka 5 times between 1989 and 2012.
In 2005, he was a special public prosecutor in a disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and advocated the case in the Supreme Court. Mangalore University honored him with an honorary doctorate in 2009. He served in the 19th Law Commission of India (2010-2012) and was awarded the Lawyers of India Day Award in 2017.
