Kolkata. Now the police may once again come under the scanner in the case of rape and murder of a doctor in West Bengal’s capital Kolkata. According to media reports, the manager of the Panihati crematorium near Kolkata has said that the Kolkata police had asked to cremate the doctor’s body quickly. The crematorium manager said that the doctor’s body was the third in line but it was cremated first on the orders of the police. According to the manager, the local MLA and councillor were also present at the funeral. Earlier on Sunday, while talking to the media, the doctor’s father had said that he was very sad after the incident. He had said that there were already three bodies at the crematorium, but his daughter’s body was cremated first. Now the crematorium manager has said that the police wanted the doctor’s body to be cremated first. In such a situation, questions can be raised on the Kolkata Police that why did it insist on cremating the doctor’s body first? However, the postmortem report of the female doctor’s body has confirmed that she was raped. Also, more than 14 injury marks have been found on her body.

A female doctor pursuing PG at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata was raped at around 3 am on the intervening night of 8 and 9 August 2024. After which she was strangled to death. In this case, the police arrested its civic volunteer Sanjay Rai as the accused. On the orders of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI is now investigating this case. At the same time, the colleagues of the deceased doctor are alleging that the rape and murder was not the work of a single person. They say that there is a possibility of the doctor being gang-raped. However, the name of any other accused has not been revealed so far.
