When did the major incidents of rape happen in West Bengal
After the case of the brutal rape and murder of a doctor of RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 5, on one hand, protests are going on across the country, while on the other hand, the doctors have taken a tough stand on this matter. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on August 16 led a rally demanding death penalty for the main accused in the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar.
The Indian Medical Association has called for a 24-hour nationwide shutdown of non-emergency and OPD services on August 17. The organisation has also demanded justice for the victim and a central law to protect healthcare workers. IMA chief Dr R V Ashokan said the health ministry’s decision to form a panel to deliberate on a central law to protect healthcare workers was “too little and too late”.
Let us tell you that after this incident, the Central Government said that in case of any incident of violence against a health worker deployed on duty, the heads of health institutions will have to file an FIR within six hours.
