New Delhi. There is bad news for those who wish to get their children admitted in Kendriya Vidyalayas from the discretionary quota available to MPs or District Magistrates. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has banned all admissions under discretionary quota, including MPs, till further orders. For this, a letter has been sent to all Kendriya Vidyalayas. According to this letter, after reviewing all the reservations, it has been postponed. This decision was taken when Congress MP Manish Tewari in Lok Sabha last week demanded to increase the seats of MP quota in Kendriya Vidyalayas of the country or eliminate it completely. Political discussion had started since then regarding this issue. While many MPs supported Manish and demanded to end this quota as discriminatory, some MPs demanded to increase its seats. After this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had directed all the parties to discuss the matter. In this regard, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the decision of the House would be taken together whether the MP quota should be increased or it should be abolished.
What is the MP quota in Kendriya Vidyalaya?
During the year 1975, the Central Government had fixed the MP quota in KVS under a special scheme, in which the number of seats reserved for all the MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha was fixed. Its purpose was that through this the people’s representatives could provide education facilities to the prominent and needy people of their area. MPs send a coupon and full details of the student who needs to be admitted to the Union Ministry of Education and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. After this the organization releases the list of shortlisted students on its official website, and after that the process of admission of students starts. However, this facility is applicable only to the students of class 1st to 9th. Along with the MPs, the Union Education Minister has also been given a quota of 450 students to get admission.
