New Delhi: Five army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were martyred during a tank war exercise in Daulat Beg Oldi area of Ladakh. Many leaders, including Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, have expressed grief over this accident. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on the social media platform X on Saturday, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives of five brave Indian Army personnel in the unfortunate accident while crossing the river in Ladakh. We will never forget the exemplary service of our brave soldiers for the country. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The whole country stands with them in this hour of grief.”
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed grief over the accident and wrote, “It is very sad to know that a T-72 tank along with five soldiers were washed away in a flash flood near the Line of Actual Control in Nyoma-Chusul area of Ladakh. I pray for the safety and well-being of our brave soldiers.”

Expressing grief over the Ladakh accident, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives of five Indian Army personnel, including a JCO, while crossing a river in Ladakh. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the military personnel who fell victim to this painful tragedy. In this hour of grief, the whole country stands to salute the exemplary service of our brave soldiers.”
Priyanka Gandhi also expressed grief
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote on her social media handle, “The news of the martyrdom of five army personnel in the flash flood near the Line of Control in Ladakh is extremely sad. May God grant peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The country will always be indebted to our brave soldiers and their families for this supreme sacrifice.”
Official sources from Leh city in Ladakh region told IANS that tank warfare exercises were going on in the Daulat Beg Oldi area near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Friday. During this exercise, the high altitude areas around the river the tanks were crossing were flooded due to a sudden cloudburst. Sources said, “Due to the sudden flood, a tank got stuck under water, in which five soldiers were martyred.”
