Ranchi. Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, convicted in the fodder scam, will have to wait longer for bail. His bail plea was heard on Friday in the court of Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh of the Jharkhand High Court. The CBI has sought time to file counter affidavit in this case, accepting which the court has fixed April 22 for the next hearing on the petition.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued on behalf of Lalu Prasad Yadav in the court. He said that Lalu Yadav has been in jail for 11 months more than half the sentence. At this point, the CBI sought permission to file a counter affidavit.
Let us inform that on February 21, the CBI court in Ranchi convicted Lalu Prasad in the case of illegal withdrawal of 139 crore from Doranda treasury in Ranchi and sentenced him to five years imprisonment.
Lalu Prasad Yadav filed an appeal in the Jharkhand High Court on February 24 against the order of the CBI court. The Bench of the High Court in which Lalu Yadav’s case was listed, that bench did not sit on April 1. After this, the date of April 8 was fixed for hearing.
At present, Lalu Prasad Yadav is in judicial custody. He is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi due to ailments.
