When and how is stone surgery done
Dr. Hemant explains that stones of 5 to 8 millimeters (0.5-0.8 centimeters) can be removed with medicines without surgery. But, surgery is required to remove stones larger than this. Generally, surgery is done using laparoscopy technique by making small holes in the back to remove kidney stones. But now in the hospital, stones up to two centimeters can be removed through laser surgery. In this procedure, a fiber is taken to the kidney through the urinary tract of the patient and the stone is broken with a laser. This procedure takes about one and a half hours.
