Lateral Entry Controversy: Central Government requested UPSC to cancel lateral entry recruitment advertisement

New Delhi. There has been a new twist in the controversy over the recruitment of Joint Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Director through lateral entry. The central government has requested UPSC to withdraw the recruitment advertisement. After the order of PM Narendra Modi, DoPT Minister Jitendra Singh has written a letter to the UPSC Chairman. In this letter, Minister Jitendra Singh has demanded the cancellation of the lateral entry advertisement. Let us tell you that UPSC had recently issued an advertisement for recruitment to 45 posts of Joint Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Director through lateral entry.

Since the release of this advertisement, the Congress and other opposition parties have been opposing the recruitment to the posts of Joint Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Director through lateral entry. Both the ruling party and the opposition were attacking each other on this issue. Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha had targeted the government and said that by direct recruitment to IAS posts in this way, the government wants to snatch away the reservation of SC, ST and OBC.

On the other hand, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav countered on this matter and said that it was the UPA government that developed the concept of lateral entry. The second Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC) was formed in the year 2005 under the leadership of the Manohar Singh government. It is worth noting that through lateral entry, recruitment is done for the posts of Joint Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Director in various departments and ministries without giving the IAS exam. In lateral entry, the government appoints experts from various fields working in the private sector to those posts where IAS are appointed, through just an interview.
